How to Care for Your New Driveway (Day 1 to Year 10) Right after the pour (first 7–28 days): Keep off it! Foot traffic 24–48 hours, vehicles 7 days. Full cure is 28 days.
Protect the surface: No sprinklers blasting the slab, no dragging dumpsters, and don’t park on the edges early on. No hose-diluting “cure”: We apply a proper seal or wet cure if specified. Don’t add water yourself unless we give you that instruction. Easy on the steering: For the first month, avoid turning the wheel while the car’s not moving, called dry steering for you driving enthusiasts—hot Florida days can scuff fresh-finish concrete.
Long-term care (Sarasota County weather):
You can seal it every 2–3 years. We recommend you wait 3 years before any sealant is applied. UV, salt air, and summer rains are tough; sealing helps resist staining and wear. Note this will change the look of the concrete, it’s a personal preference. Clean spills fast. Oil, fertilizer, and rust can discolor concrete. Use a neutral pH cleaner, I’d skip harsh muriatic (or other) acids unless you are professionally trained. Mind the joints. Keep control/expansion joints clear so they can function as intended, a crack there could let water under the slab and you won’t see it since its down at the bottom of the control joint. Soft wash, don’t blast. Light pressure wash is fine; keep the tip back to avoid etching the finish.
